In the future, more than 2,000 people are expected to live and work here. As a model project under the theme “Education as a Location Factor,” NeckarPark aims to demonstrate how urban development can be combined with the creation of high-quality educational and childcare services. As the state capital’s largest school construction project to date, the building combines multiple functions under one roof while setting new standards in sustainability and construction methods.

The new building, located on the site of the former freight yard in Bad Cannstatt, is designed as a public hybrid-timber school building. Wood-based structures characterize the upper floors. The architecture is complemented by striking green facades and sustainable energy concepts.

Inside the building, this commitment is reflected in high-quality interior finishes. Custom-made fixtures such as seating steps, coat racks, and shelves have created a pleasant atmosphere for learning and socializing. The understated design visually supports the building’s diverse and flexible use. In the gymnasium, modern seating—inspired by the function of a grandstand—ensures comfort and invites people to linger. Custom-built kitchens embody the concept of durable, functional spaces that withstand the daily demands of the educational center. A dance studio with an integrated mirrored wall and ballet bars rounds out the educational concept.

The elementary school, daycare center, sports hall, and adult education center are connected along a central circulation zone. The “Bildungshaus NeckarPark” stands as a prime example of contemporary educational architecture, where architecture, sustainability, and high-quality interior finishes are brought together into a harmonious overall concept.
